All the USB drivers and communication in V4.19 and V4.20 is identical.

Hi Tom,
OK, then I have to investigate and see what is wrong.
Swedish Midsummer Greetings to all.

Hi Tom,
So here my findings as regards USB.
1. PC and Kflop/Kanalog powered, either cable works active or standard
2. When I power up the mill and its electronics the active disconnects but the standard works.
Any hints on what can be bad? Do you think that one el-cap and one cer-cap as filtering on power input would do the trick?
Cheers Bengt

Hi Bengt,
I don't know. More likely it is a noise pulse being introduced into the USB cable due to the longer length or location of the cable. Are both cables in similar locations, or is the active closer to other wiring?
You might try powering up the mill bit-by-bit to see what is the cause of the problem.

Hi Tom,
the active cable is along other cables in a wire sleeve, unisolated robothose so yes that cable is close to others. The standard cable is not close to the other wires so there is probably the problem. To start up bit-by-bit is not so easy but there are several relays and stuff on the 3-phase installation that might give me the troubles. I have two active 5m USB cables and both react the same way. I will have to open the 'active part' of the USB cable and look whats inside :)
Cheers Bengt

Problem solved!
I took out one of the active cables and replaced it with a standard 5m USB cable and now Kmotion is happy and CONNECTED with all powered up in my milling machine. The other active I left in the same cable hose is working with other USB gear but not with Kflop with miller powered. Modern technicalities (active USB)'sigh'.... Cheers Bengt

Hi,
How long USB cables can be used with reliability?
Need up to 5m and I am planning to use cable with ferrites on both ends for this. Unfortunately USB3 cables are max 3m and might be a better solution?
Comments appreciated
Cheers

Hi Bengt,
I doubt if there is a simple answer. It probably depends on your noise environment. KFlop only uses USB Full speed (12 MHz). I've experimented with 10m cables without any problems.
I think the main issue with USB is that it is not isolated so things far apart tend to have more ground differences and ground loops. There are now low cost USB isolators becoming available.
I hope this helps. Please post your results.
Thanks
